Families can stay in yurts and treehouses within an enchanting new woodland village on an activity holiday in Normandy this summer.
The new eco-friendly homes enjoy a magical natural setting, tucked away among trees close to a river and lake within the 100-acre grounds of a beautiful old chateau close to the coast near Avranches. The 200-year-old Chateau de la Baudonniere is the base for Family Adventure Holidays’ fun-packed, all-inclusive weeks offering a daily programme of activities for children from tots to teens and their parents.
The three colourfully-painted authentic Mongolian yurts and two timber treehouses constructed on stilts provide next-to-nature accommodation which is peaceful and rustic, yet spacious and comfortable. Treehouses feature their own private furnished balcony for soaking up the sights and sounds of the forest.
The woodland homes have solar power and lighting and the treehouses also have the luxury of an eco-toilet and shower powered by hydro-electricity generated by a nearby waterfall. Each unit sleeps two adults and two or three children and a homely woodland cabin next to the lodge provides accommodation for another family of four. Communal showers and toilet facilities are provided in an old lodge in the centre of the village, where families also meet for breakfast.
More conventional bedrooms can be found in the chateau itself, where lunch, dinner and supper are served each day. Activities, tailored to different age groups, take place within the chateau’s huge grounds. These include circus skills and a mini-farm for the tots, aeroball and archery for children, tee-shirt making and raft-building for teens and clay pigeon-shooting and cider-making for parents. New for this year is canoeing on the famous tidal bore across the bay of Mont St Michel. Families get together to enjoy country and coastal bike rides, It’s A Knockout-style tournaments and evening entertainment.
The Normandy Chateau Family Adventure Holiday is available from July 23 – September 3, with seven-night prices, based on two adults and two children sharing a yurt, costing £445 per adult and child aged 16 or over, and £425 per child aged 6-15 years. Treehouse accommodation costs £495 per adult and child 16-plus, and £465 child aged 6-15. The woodland cabin costs £475 per adult and child aged 16-plus, and £445 for 6-15s. Ensuite family rooms in the chateau start at £420 for adults and children aged 16-plus, and £375 for 6-15s. Children aged 2-5 years cost £145 staying in a yurt, woodland cabin or chateau room.
